The Corinth Canal is a man made canal that connects the Corinthian Gulf with the Saronic Gulf. It is located east of the city of Corith and about 30 minutes from Melissi village and is accesible by public transportation or by car. The construction of the canal began in 1881 and completed after delays caused by geological and financial problems in 1893. Nowdays because of the canal’s narrowness which is making it impassable for modern ships is used mainly as tourist attraction.
